Our Collection
This page at the Orange County Holocaust Education Center features two deeply moving stories that preserve the memory and resilience of Holocaust survivors through art and family testimony. The Skirt of Survival tells the story of Marta Lightner and her sister Lydia, whose love and defiance were woven into a hand-knit skirt that symbolized hope amid destruction. The World Didn’t Listen shares survivor and artist Tova Rotlevy Cohen’s tribute to her grandfather, who perished at Auschwitz, through her sculpture inspired by Elie Wiesel’s words. Together, these stories honor the enduring human spirit, teaching future generations about the power of remembrance, creativity, and compassion in the face of unimaginable loss.
