A perennial favorite, first published in 1989, "Number the Stars" tells the fictional story of the rescue of the Jews from Nazi persecution by the Danish people. Based on true tales, the story is a composite of the situation in Denmark under Nazi occupation. An excellent introduction for younger readers, the book has been suggested reading by teachers since its publication. You will laugh, you will cry, you will be reminded of the power of the human spirit. Told through the eyes of Annemarie Johansen, one is reminded of the power of love and how being brave can be scary, but simple and impactful.
